I did end up going to watch that Golden State Warriors game on Wednesday. I watched them narrowly beat the Chicago Bulls. I was there as part of a Duke Alumni event to meet Mike Dunleavy after the game. Mike is a rookie with the Warriors and Duke alumni. This game was chosen because Jason Williams, one of Mike’s teammates at Duke, is a rookie with the Bulls and is also their starting point gaurd.

Duke is naming a new science research building The French Sciences Center in honor of Melinda French Gates. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation gave Duke an additonal $30 million this summer, following on to a $20 million donation in 1998. Melinda is a member of the Duke board of trustees and earned her BS in Computer Science & Economics, along with an MBA. If remember correctly, she did all of that in five years. She went on to be an exec at Microsoft and is now married to Bill Gates. I had the chance to meet her once at a Duke Student Governement event.

A picture named duke_campaign.gifI attended a reception and dinner last night with Duke University’s President Nan Keohane at the Four Seasons hotel in San Francisco. I managed to run into a few old friends from Duke, had a quick chat with Nan, and got to check out the Four Seasons for the first time. It’s a very impressive hotel.
I also learned that there is a Duke Alumni event at the Warriors vs. Bulls basketball game tomorrow in Oakland. A bunch of Dukies will be sitting together and will get a chance to chat with Mike Dunleavy (Warriors) and Jason Williams (Bulls) who both helped Duke win it’s last National Championship in 2001.
